Robert Earl Keen made a splash in Central Texas with his debut album in 1984, No Kinda Dancer. Starting off in the front room of the Hall, he rotated Sunday afternoon free shows with folks like Lyle Lovett and Nanci Griffith. He did so well that he soon landed a weekly gig, playing every Wednesday night for a while. REK built his crowd with hard work, good songs, great stories and an excellent stage presence that soon earned him a spot on the Hall’s main stage where he has since sold out show after show. In 2012, Robert Earl Keen was inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame along with the late, great Van Zandt and his college buddy, Lyle Lovett.
