Shakey Graves became known for his one-man band set up with his 2011 self-released debut album, Roll the Bones, mostly featuring him playing solo. After being courted by many labels, he signed with Dualtone Records, and released And the War Came in 2014 which included additional musicians. Shakey Graves soon began touring as a three-piece band. The band made their television debut in 2014 on Conan, followed by appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Seth Meyers. In 2015, the band performed on Austin City Limits and later that year Shakey Graves won the Best Emerging Artist award at the 2015 Americana Music Awards. In the last few years, the band has released several more albums and in August 2020 was on BandinTown X Billboard’s Top 25 Livestream Artists.
